Day 54: Cheating

Ok, so I'm cheating today, but I feel this is important. I really love this shot in color, since you can sense the love between these two, and look at the glimmer in Echo's eye (black Lab, on right.) Also, Cayuga (on left) is literally "kissing" him, if you look closely!

She's such a pretty poser. She's my "posing" Lab. My other Lab just tolerates the camera in his face all the time. I'm definitely adding "dog photographer" to the list.

It bothered me that the infant swing was SO blue in the background, and of course.. editing isn't possible for me yet. So I changed it up. Which one do you like best?

Here's a whimsical shot I took the other day when I was really reaching to NOT get a snowy-wintery-mix shot. It's also to cheer up a friend whom I know stops by my photo blog. (:

A wind-up toy my toddler wound up getting (get it?) since they store them next to the checkout line in the toy store. Brilliant.

Day 47: Sled

I know, I know. It's another snow shot! Ahhhhhhhhh!! But I have been staring at this sled for a few days, and I finally just shot it. It's still stuck in the snow like that.

I'm constantly trying to figure out how to shoot streaming sunlight (it's called purchasing a new lens.) This didn't quite turn out like I thought it would.

How about we look at something more pleasant than ten feet of snow outside my frozen-shut front door? My back aches (shoveling.) My toddler screams (cabin fever.) My husband grumbles (see toddler.) Yet my infant son sleeps, and smiles, and coos, and loves us all back tenfold.

Day 42: Bundle Me Up

I'm so, so over the snow. (I know, you wouldn't guess it from the shots I'm posting, right?) That seems to be our world right now, since we've been trapped at home for nearly a week.
But at least my toddler is loving it!

Day 41: The Crook of the Branch

Not the moon; actually a streetlight, lighting up the lasting dusting of snow. In the foreground is a dogwood, and I love how the snow gathers in the crook like that.

Day 40: Making History

They say the snow we're getting right now is very close to tying the all-time record snowfall for the Washington, DC metro area.. 54". From 1898!! And we're getting more as we speak, have all day. Hope you like snow shots.

I have so, so (so!) many snowy pictures to share as of late. BUT, at least it's a break from my toddler, my newborn, and my two furry kids.. right?!

Day 37: Snow My Gosh

Wow, we got a crazy (historic) amount of snow! Snow is tough to shoot.. so much white, and not much contrast. This is a rough representation of how much we got. More to come!

Day 36: Snowy Gate

This is nowhere near the best shot I've taken in the last few days, but I thought I must convey a sense of how much flipping snow we've gotten in the last 12 hours!.. and to do that, I needed some contrast, which the dark gate/house provide. We're at around 23-24 inches and counting!

Day 35: Boys and Their Shoes

I love differences.. size differences, changes in light, close up v. distance. And (all) my boys' shoes made for an excellent exercise in difference.. baby, toddler, and grown-up!

Day 34: Focus

My black Lab, Echo, ever watchful for intruders, squirrels, or stray snowcats. pI thought this shot was apropos today, as we sit and wait for the massive winter storm that will, apparently, be burying us in 100 inches of snow Fri-Sat. Hope that means lots of outdoor shots!

I love what this camera can do, and love even more that things turn out so much better in natural light! It's tough to shoot kids indoors with low/poor lighting, so I went a little crazy with the camera in the last few days with all the snow we've gotten. My toddler obliged!
